Page or title tag is different from your h1 tag. You must be clear about this. In your h1 tag, you insert the headline or title of your article or content. In your title tag, you include the title for your page. It can be seen on top of the browser. Its code looks like this:

Before you start working on a page title, you have to know the rules – the DOs – so you are sure of your every move. Read on:
1. Do include your company name or a catchy tagline in your page title.
Your page title will not only help you increase your chances of landing in the first page, if not in the top spot, of search engine results. It can also help you promote your company or your products or services.
In the example above, your page title should have been just “Cheap Digital Camera Buying Guide”. But because you want to maximize the use of the Internet for company visibility, you opt to include your company name: “Cheap Digital Camera Buying Guide – Your Company Name Here”. There is nothing wrong with that. In fact, you can even include tagline or the likes: “Cheap Digital Camera Buying Guide – Liz DigiShop, Lowest Prices”.
2. Do limit your page title characters to 60 or less than 70.
You have the freedom to choose any title for your page. You may include anything you want, but make sure that you limit the number of the characters to 60 or less than 70 (including spaces). Google does not display more than this in search results.
3. Do make your page title summarize or tell something about the page content.
Make sure that your page title summarizes or relates to your content.
4. Do begin your page title with the keyword.
In the above example, the title of the content is this: “How to Choose Your Cheap Digital Camera”. Your page title is “Cheap Digital Camera Buying Guide – Your Company Name Here”. Obviously, your keyword is “cheap digital camera”. In your page title, you start it with your keyword. This is helpful in your aim to place higher in search engine ranking.
5. Do use a page title different from your heading.
If you do not want to exert an effort thinking of another title for your page, you can just use the title of the article. Search engine robots will read it anyway. But then again, if your concentration is to maximize the potentials of your Search Engine Optimization (SEO) efforts, it is necessary that you think of a different page title.
6. Do refrain from overstuffing your keywords.
Do not be too happy with the thought of generating website traffic through the use of keywords or keyword phrases, or else you will tend to overstuff your page with them. This will affect your ranking in search results.
You must not take page titling lightly. Search engines give high importance to page titles. They scan them regularly; hence, if they find your page title highly related to what an Internet user looks for, they will readily include you in the search results. Now, your placement or spot will depend on your keyword or keyword phrase.
